I feel like I am bragging every time I say that I am a certified Yoga Trapeze Instructor. The truth is that yoga trapeze sounds much more impressive than the reality of the practice. It is a challenging practice, for sure, but it is also playful and easy on the joints.
Yoga Trapeze is a sling made of parachute material with three straps that each have handles on both left and right sides, much like a TRX set-up. The trapeze I use and was trained on was invented by Lucas Rockwood of YOGABODY.
I had purchased the Yoga Trapeze in 2019 to help find some relief for sore back muscles and tight hips. I was holding a lot of tension in my upper and lower back at the time. I just wanted to hang upside down to get a better stretch. That’s really it.
I hung it from a tree in my front yard. My kids and I would hang upside down in it. The release in traction made my back feel good. It was a helpful device, but I knew I was only a very basic user.
Fast forward to the summer of 2023. I was healing from cancer treatments and Long Covid. I needed to strengthen my body after having lost a lot of muscle and gained some weight. I also needed to earn some yoga teacher education credits to keep my certificate in good standing.
An email from Lucas Rockwood popped up. It said, “Yoga Trapeze Teacher Training Sign Ups!” It mentioned that it would count toward continuing education credits for your general yoga certification. I could learn more about the device, help myself, and keep my yoga certification up to date.
Little did I know that Yoga Trapeze would catapult me onto an amazing health trajectory. My body felt great, my mind was less foggy, I was laughing and playing while working out. I gained a huge amount of confidence in my own abilities, post-illness.
Yoga Trapeze is a gentle and effective workout. Not only do you leave a session feeling good in your own skin, but there’s a confidence that it builds in your own body’s abilities. There’s a spirit of curiosity and playfulness that the Yoga Trapeze automatically brings to every workout.
